How to get noticed with your LinkedIn profile

Yes, social media allows you express yourself and Snapchat is the new rave. But your LinkedIn profile should be taken seriously if you don’t want to go grey in the job market.
Here’s how to give your LinkedIn profile a facelift and start getting noticed by recruiters.

  • Show Your Achievements: Treat your profile like a CV because it is one. Include projects, volunteer works, languages and causes you care about: it doesn’t matter if all these are in your CV, recruiters want to know your other qualities, qualifications and interests. It might be a like-mind in “causes you care about” that will pique an employer’s interest in you and invite you for an interview. So, No, no information is unnecessary.
  • Don’t Overdo The Job Search: When a recruiter looks at your profile, your recent activities on LinkedIn are visible to them and it will be a huge turn off if they see you commenting “interested” under every job irrespective of job description or requirements. Comment when necessary and when the job fits your field and qualification, most times it is better to send your CV directly to the email in the job call post (most legit recruiters put email address, while some believe your profile is your CV and wants to use that)
  • Add Your Contact Details: What’s a LinkedIn profile without contact details? It’s okay to hide your phone number but at least display your email address to show employers you’re open to conversations and talks about employment.
  • Follow People, Companies and Join Like-Minded Groups: LinkedIn is bank of business information. While chasing your dream job, follow people you look up to, the big shots in the industry you want to work in, and the companies you would like to work with to stay abreast of all latest information and updates.  You can also join discussion groups in your industry; they create network and share important information like job openings, which can be to your advantage.

25 FACTS ABOUT OBAMA

By   KelseyWarner   on March 4, 2016 Inside Gov As the final remaining year of the Obama administration is well underway, the legacy that President   Barack Obama   will forge in history remains hotly contested.   Conservatives argue   Obama is the “worst president ever” while   liberals have claimed   he has “done more good for this country than any president before him.” He likely will not play the role of a “lame-duck” president, as the administration has yet to slow down. Obama currently finds himself in the middle of a   heated standoff   with the Republican-led Senate to fill a Supreme Court vacancy. He still pursues a workable   plan to close GuantanamoBay , one of his 2008 campaign promises. As his term nears its end, the passionate, vocal opinions on both sides of the political aisle may reach their crescendo as his legacy becomes ripe for interpretation. When reflecting on Obama’s time in the White House, the f...

WAYS TO LOSE A JOB BEFORE YOU'RE INTERVIEWED

The internet is filled with all the things you have to do to get your job but no one ever talks about all the things you have to not do to get a job. So here are some important “don’ts” of job hunting. Don’t use one method of job hunting: Ok, we get that social media and online applications are the in-thing now but never forget or underestimate the power of plain ol’ physical applications submissions, recruiting agencies and “connect” referrals. Don’t do mass applications with the same CV: No really, do not do that. Don’t apply for every job (you really cannot do “anything”) and if you’re going to apply to a lot of jobs in your field, ensure each application is tailored to the job description and company. Don’t “play yourself”: As noted in point 1, social media is the in-thing right now and it can cost you major opportunities. Do not post anything you don’t want a prospective employer to see. If you do? Congratulations, you just played yourself *in D Khaled’s voice* ...
